The one thing that's going to take a lot of getting used to is the weather... The other day, I got up early to meet another exchange student at the train station and I could see my own breath! And it's only August!! I don't know if I'll be able to make it through the winter...
There are a lot of differences here from Florida. We always take our shoes off when we go inside the house. School hasn't started yet but I've been told I have to bring a pair of house shoes with me to change into once I get inside. We also eat soooooooooooooooooo much bread here. It's the main part of every meal. And the toilets work different too! Good thing they're not too hard to figure out... Saved myself from a pretty embarrassing moment... The cars all look the same too! And they drive so fast and crazy! I've gotten used to it now but at first I thought I might not make it back to my house alive. Oh and they don't have Reeses here! I don't know how long I can take it. I brought a few bags to share with my friends but I don't know how long I can keep myself from them... Fortunately they have this awesome chocolate called kinder (which is kinda funny because kinder is German for Children). But this chocolate is by far the best chocolate I've ever had in my entire life! It might even be better than Reeses... And for those of you that don't know, they have Kinder eggs here which are these chocolate eggs with a toy inside! Everyone here can't believe we don't have kinder in America (and I can see why). They also think peanut butter is weird. My sister got me some at the store a few days ago and I made her try a PB&J. She looked at me like I was crazy when I told her we mix it with jelly. By the way, my host mom makes fresh jelly and uses the fruit from her garden! A good bit of the stuff we eat is really fresh and it tastes amazing!
Funny story: There's a huge storm right now and as I'm typing this the power goes out... twice... just my luck... its pretty cool though. Even the lightening here looks different.
Anyways, My family here is really sweet and they try to help me a lot with my German. Most of the time, when I say something, they look at me like I'm crazy, but after a few more tries they usually figure out what I'm saying.
There are so many things I still have to learn here, but I think that's the fun part. I've gained so much more confidence here and learned so much about myself already. I hope everyone back in the US is doing great! And I promise to update you guys every now and then.
Tschüss!
